LEGACY GIVING
All the materials things you’ve worked for – cash, personal property, assets like retirement funds and insurance policies – these are the tools of charitable gift planning, tools that can allow you to express your belief in our library.
A Legacy Gift Today:
Establishing a permanent endowment fund in your name or the name of a loved one is a wonderful way to make a gift to Columbus Metropolitan Library that will last a lifetime. A contribution of $15,000 or more will establish a named endowment in perpetuity.
Named endowment funds can either be unrestricted - providing great flexibility to responding to community and customer need - or restricted to one or more fields of interest:
• Young Minds Fund – for initiatives that support kids, their parents and caregivers from birth through the teen years
• Cornerstone Fund – for building the library’s collection, ensuring the books, materials and media acknowledge and respond to growing segments of the community’s populations and trends in information, education and entertainment
• New Frontiers Fund – for responding to the communities ever-changing idea of the library’s role; particularly, expanding the library’s technology offerings to continue to provide important access to the computers and electronics that make our community tick and bridge the digital divide
A Legacy Gift Tomorrow:
We admire people who plan! And if preparing for your future could include remembering the library in your estate plan, we would be very grateful. Planned gifts are an integral part of ensuring our library’s excellence for generations to come. Planned gifts can also provide you with valuable tax benefits, and even lifetime income.
Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation has an established gift acceptance policy and will work with you to accept many types of gifts, including:
Cash

The simplest of Legacy Gifts: Bequest by Will or Trust
A bequest to the Columbus Metropolitan Library can be easily made through a simple designation in a will or trust.
Sample language for inclusion in your estate planning documents,
“I give and bequeath to the Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation, Columbus, Ohio, an unrestricted gift in the sum of $(Amount) or (Percent) % of my estate, real or personal, which I own at the time of my death or over which I have power of disposition. The Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation shall administer said assets for the sole benefit of Columbus Metropolitan Library.”
If you have an interest in designating your bequest more specifically through the establishment of a named fund, please contact the Development Office for additional information.
Library Legacy Society:
The Library Legacy Society recognizes those individuals who have shared their intentions to make a legacy gift to the library. Identified Library Legacy Society members are entitled to special recognition and invitations to events and on-going information about the library’s activities, initiatives and news.
You may choose to remain anonymous; however participation in the Library Legacy Society can be a rewarding experience – and opportunity to encourage others to share your passion for the library. An established named fund or a completed letter of intent for a planned gift is all that is needed to identify you as a Library Legacy Society member.
